Former SuperSport United striker Evans Rusike has made a bold claim about his and Khama Billiat’s presence in Zimbabwe’s elite league.

Rusike returned to Zimbabwe a month after Khama Billiat joined Yadah FC in February 2024. The gangly forward also joined Yadah FC.

Rusike stayed put at the Walter Magaya-owned club as Billiat crossed floors to join Castle Lager Premier Soccer League newcomers, Scottland FC for the new 2025 campaign.

The duo has not made so much of an impact this season in terms of goals and assists, but Scottland FC has been cruising nicely in their maiden season.

However, Rusike, who also played for Maritzburg United, Sekhukhune United and Moroka Swallows, has spoken of the impact they have made in Zimbabwe.

WHAT THE FORMER SUPERSPORT STRIKER RUSIKE SAID

Rusike told FARPost that together with the former Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns talisman, Billiat, they have been a point of reference in the Zim league.

“I think I still have some steel in me, and I’m still pushing. I think a lot of young players are also benefiting through the likes of me and Khama [Billiat] being around,” said Rusike.

“If they still need you, you can still give them what you have. But no, we love this game. We would want to retire when we still love it.”

Asked about the difference between Zimbabwe’s PSL and the Betway Premiership, Rusike said: “It’s been good, I can’t complain. Playing at home is always the best. Not everything that you hope to see when it comes to the level, because of the facilities and other things here.

“But game-wise, it’s not like there is something new. Like the team that I know, they’ve been fighting really good. I think last season we did well, but now we need more games to play.

“Looking at our side now, the way we’re playing, I think we can get something when the season ends.”
