Former Kaizer Chiefs coach Cavin Johnson has given an update on his future after spending the entire 2024/25 season without a club.
Johnsonโs last job in the Betway Premiership was with Chiefs when he took over the coaching role on an interim basis halfway through the 2023/24 campaign. The experienced mentor initially arrived at Amakhosi as the Head of Academy before he was elevated to the first team.
He took over the hot seat at Chiefs after Molefi Ntseki was fired following a dismal run of form. While the former SuperSport United coach was brought in to change the fortunes of Amakhosi, he also struggled for positive results, which saw the club finish 10th on the league table.
In his brief spell at the helm of the Glamour Boys, Johnson was in charge in 21 league games, where he recorded just six victories, six draws, and nine defeats. Under his guidance, Chiefs were also knocked out of the 2024 Nedbank Cup in the Last 32 by Motsepe Foundation Championship side Milford FC after a penalty shootout.
WHAT CAVIN HOHNSON SAID ABOUT HIS FUTURE
Johnson has revealed that he’s currently busy giving back to communities. However, he’s on the lookout for coaching opportunities.
โIโm busy with a lot of community work, but still on the market looking for something to happen, but I’m just trying to give back to the community because our communities have been neglected,โ Johnson said.
โWe are not seeing the Steven Pienaar and Jabu Mahlangu coming from those areas [townships]. So we need to go back to those areas and make sure that we try and find the gems that we had in the past and bring them to the big league.โ
The 66-year-old is vastly experienced in the SA top-flight, having coached teams such as Platinum Stars, SuperSport United, AmaZulu FC, Black Leopards, and Chiefs. Johnson also served as an assistant coach to Pitso Mosimane at Al Ahly a few years ago.
