Motsepe Foundation Championship side University of Pretoria -AmaTuks and head coach Tlisane Motaung have officially parted ways, FARPost has established.
Motaung, who initially joined AmaTuks as a player, took the reins as head coach in the 2021/22 season, coming close to guiding the team to promotion to the Betway Premiership.
Under his leadership, the club reached the PSL Promotion/Relegation Playoffs twice, in both the 2021/22 and 2023/24 seasons. Motaung also led AmaTuks to the Nedbank Cup quarter-finals on two occasions, where they faced defeats against Royal AM in 2021 and against neighbours Mamelodiย Sundowns in 2024.
In the most recent season, AmaTuks concluded their campaign in 11th position in the Motsepe Foundation Championship, accumulating 38 points โ 10 points shy of a promotion playoff spot.
WHY DID AMATUKS PART WAYS WITH THEIR HEAD COACH?
FARPost has gathered that Motaungโs contract came to an end, and both parties agreed to go their separate ways. This publication reached out to the coach, who confirmed that indeed he was no longer part of the club.

“I grew up here. I arrived at the University of Pretoria at the age of 19 as a student, and I am more appreciative of how they shaped, supported, and mentored me,โ Motaung told FARPost.
TLISANE MOTAUNG GRATEFUL FOR THE MANY YEARS HE SPENT AT AMATUKS AS A PLAYER AND A COACH
“Arriving as a student and as a soccer player, graduating and becoming a coach of a professional team, I will always be humbled by that. Here I am today. I can only express that I am appreciative of the guidance that they have given me.
โYou know the life of football, as a coach, you are never permanent at any team due to various reasons. The most important thing is, did I add value? If you added value and you are happy, then you move on to face a new challenge. But for me, I grew up to be who I am today due to the University of Pretoria.โ
