Kaizer Chiefs have made a major announcement on the future of Ranga Chivaviro following the conclusion of the 2024/25 Betway Premiership season.
The Soweto giants officially confirmed on Wednesday that striker Chivaviro will depart the club when his contract expires at the end of June. The decision not to renew the 32-year-old’s deal comes after a challenging two seasons at Naturena.
Chivaviro arrived at Naturena two seasons ago as one of the club’s high-profile signings as he enjoyed a standout 2022/23 campaign where he netted 17 goals for Marumo Gallants and played a crucial role in their run to the CAF Confederation Cup semi-finals.
However, his time with the Glamour Boys didn’t go as planned. Despite joining as a marquee signing, his impact was limited, and the club ultimately opted against exercising the one-year renewal option on his contract. In 45 appearances for Chiefs, Chivaviro registered nine goals and one assist.
KAIZER CHIEFS CONFIRM CHIVAVIRO EXIT
“Kaizer Chiefs will not be extending striker Ranga Chivaviro’s contract when it expires at the end of the month,” said the club in a statement.
“The Limpopo-born attacker joined Amakhosi from Marumo Gallants in the 2023/24 season on a two-year deal. He scored nine goals and provided one assist in 45 official matches wearing Chiefs colours over two seasons.
“We thank Ranga for his positive contribution to the team and wish him all the best in his future exploits.”
Chivaviro’s departure from Chiefs comes after a challenging final season where his performances, which yielded five goals in 22 appearances across all competitions, drew occasional boos from the club’s often-impatient fanbase.
His exit also aligns with a broader period of disappointment for the Amakhosi. For the second consecutive season, Chiefs finished outside the top eight. However, a major highlight amidst the league struggles was their Nedbank Cup victory, which finally ended the club’s decade-long trophy drought.
