Former Cape Town Spurs coach Sean Connor has signed a two-year contract with Jwaneng Galaxy, taking over from Dutchman Pieter De Jongh.
De Jongh, formerly with FC Cape Town, replaced Morena Ramoreboli in January after he left the mining outfit to coach the Botswana national team. He guided Galaxy to a fourth-place finish, having won the league title under Ramoreboli last season.
Connor, who previously served as the technical director at Spurs, moved to Botswana at the start of the season. He enjoyed a successful stint as head coach of Matebele FC, guiding them to the semi-finals of the Orange FA Cup.
Matebele were ultimately knocked out by his new club, Jwaneng Galaxy, in a 2-1 defeat. However, his impressive stint with Matebele FC, culminating in their strong cup run, attracted significant interest from several top Botswana Premier League clubs, including Township Rollers, Orapa United and Galaxy.

SEAN CONNOR ON THE CUSP OF GLORY WITH JWANENG GALAXY
Galaxy announced through a statement that the Irishman had agreed to join as the head coach.
“With a wealth of experience coaching across the African continent, including roles as technical director of Cape Town Spurs and head coach of Matebele FC, Mr Connor brings a football philosophy that perfectly aligns with our club’s vision for growth and excellence,” the club statement reads.
“He will be supported by Mr Seemo Mpatane as assistant coach, as together, they lead the charge to elevate Galaxy both domestically and on the international stage.”
His immediate assignment will be leading them in the FA Cup final, where they face relegated Security Systems. They will be hoping to end the season on a positive note by retaining the cup title.
During his time with Matebele, Connor earned recognition for his dedication to attractive, fluid football and his commitment to developing young talent. Connor is the man who gave Luke Baartman his senior team debut during his stint as interim coach of the Mother City club.
