PSL confirms play-off details: CT City’s fate sealed

PSL confirm play-offs details

The PSL has confirmed the long-awaited details for the Promotional/Relegation Play-offs, following their postponement due to various arbitration and legal cases.

This development not only clarifies the schedule for the highly-anticipated mini-league but also seals Cape Town City FC’s participation.

The play-offs were scheduled to commence on the 27th of May. However, they were halted by the cases involving Motsepe Foundation Championship winners Durban City FC.

JDR Stars and Cape Town Spurs lodged a complaint against Durban City for allegedly fielding Saziso Magawana, who they claimed was improperly registered.

The two cases have been dismissed by the Court of Arbitration. As a result, Durban City were officially crowned the NFD champions most recently after their trophy handover was put on hold until the matter is resolved.

On the other hand, Cape Town FC has also challenged the league’s decision to have SuperSport United and Golden Arrows finish their league match that was postponed three months ago.

The match was postponed at the half-time mark due to light issues at the Lucas Moripe Stadium. SuperSport and Arrows played the remaining 45 minutes of the match last Thursday, with the match ending 1-1.

Matsatsantsa collected one point to move to the 14th position on the league table while CT City dropped to the 15th spot. As a result, they’ll fight to save their top-flight status in the play-offs.

The Cape Town-based side pointed out that the PSL rules state that in such a case, the match should be completed within 48 hours with the same playing and coaching personnel.

CT City’s case was reportedly being heard on Wednesday, 04 June 2025. However, it appears that the arbitration ruled against the John Comitis-owned team.
