Veteran German coach Ernst Middendorp has broken his silence regarding his future following Cape Town Spurs’ relegation from the Motsepe Foundation Championship to the ABC Motsepe League.
CT Spurs officially learned of their relegation over a week ago following a PSL arbitration hearing involving themselves, JDR Stars, and Durban City FC.
The Urban Warriors and JDR Stars had filed a case against Durban City, alleging that the KZN side had improperly registered a player, Saziso Magawana. However, the arbitration ultimately ruled in favour of Durban City, officially crowning them champions of the Motsepe Foundation Championship. This outcome sealed the fate of the Urban Warriors; a ruling against the Farook Kadodia-owned team, which would have resulted in points being docked, could have saved CT Spurs from relegation.
Under the guidance of Middendorp, CT Spurs endured a dismal run in their firstb season in the NFD season, having been relegated from the Betway Premiership in 2023/24.
After 30 games, CT Spurs managed to accumulate a mere 30 points from six wins, 12 draws, and 12 defeats. Consequently, Cape Town Spurs have now suffered two relegations in as many seasons, meaning they will compete in the amateur ranks of South African football next.

Speaking to Robert Marawa on 947, the former Kaizer Chiefs tactician has revealed that he won’t be in charge of the team in the third tier.
Middendorp also wrote an open letter to the PSL, urging them to address officiating challenges in the Championship.
“No [I’m not going to the ABC Motsepe League], that’s not our plan,” Middendorp said on Marawa Sports Worldwide.
“Even if we were not relegated, I would have written to the PSL. I made it very clear from last year in October, what’s happening here with officiating is not right.
“I can only be honest about it. This is not about me, it’s not about Cape Town Spurs, it’s about the integrity of the game. That’s what is important for me. So I won’t be going to the ABC Motsepe League, we haven’t even started discussing this with the club.”
