Talented midfielder Given Thibedi has candidly reflected on the lessons he’s learned in his professional football career, following challenging spells at Kaizer Chiefs, Moroka Swallows, and Casric Stars.
Thibedi’s career in the PSL began promisingly when he was promoted to Chiefs’ first team in 2018, having honed his skills in the club’s Diski Challenge side. However, the now 27-year-old midfielder found it challenging to meet the high expectations at Amakhosi, leading to a loan move to Moroka Swallows.
He eventually made that move permanent, but despite helping the Dube Birds gain promotion to the SA elite league, he struggled for regular game time.
His search for consistent play continued, and in January 2023, Thibedi joined Casric Stars in the second-tier league. He made 30 appearances for the Mpumalanga-based side before being released in January of this year.
Following his departure from Casric, Thibedi signed with Orbit College FC, where he quickly made an impact, featuring in eight matches. He played a crucial role in helping the North West-based team secure second place in the Motsepe Foundation Championship with 53 points from 30 games, just five points behind league winners Durban City FC, thereby qualifying for the PSL Promotional/Relegation Playoffs.

GIVEN THIBEDI REFLECTS: THE LESSONS AFTER CHIEFS
The central midfielder stated that he holds no one accountable for the difficulties he encountered in his career. Moving forward, Thibedi plans to seize every opportunity wisely, having learned that “nothing lasts forever.”
“I have learned that nothing lasts forever. When you get a moment, use it wisely. I believe that everything happens at God’s timing,” said Thibedi in an exclusive interview with FARPost.
“I don’t feel like people have given up on me because I have a goal, and I’m competing with myself only. Everything happens for a reason. So, there is a reason why I went through what I faced in my football career that led me to be where I am today.
“The only thing I’m grateful for is life. I believe I still have a chance to continue with my career and reach greater heights. So, I wouldn’t blame anyone because this is about me and God only.”
Thibedi will be aiming to play a crucial role in Orbit College FC’s bid for promotion to the Betway Premiership, as they prepare for the upcoming PSL Promotional/Relegation Playoffs. Their campaign is set to kick off with a home game against Casric Stars at Olympia Stadium on Wednesday, June 11, at 15:00.
