Despite uncertainty over his future, FARPost has established that Magesi FC are set to retain coach Owen Da Gama ahead of next season.

Da Gama led the Limpopo side to a 13th-place finish in their first season in the Betway Premiership after a poor start.

The 63-year-old joined Magesi in December 2024. He replaced Clinton Larsen, who had resigned despite winning the Carling Knockout Cup.

Da Gama enjoyed great success at the club, taking them from the bottom of the log to within a chance for a top-eight spot. He was also voted Coach of the Month for March 2025.

MAGESI FC CEO HAPPY WITH THE WORK DONE BY DA GAMA

In an interview with the club website, club CEO John Mathibe commended Da Gama for the work he has done since joining the club.

“When the coach came on board, we definitely knew that he was a person with experience,” said Mathibe.

“I, personally, have followed him. I know his history, and as management and the chairman, we got behind every player and technical staff member for them to do their best in their field of work. With Coach Owen, we are giving him everything that he wants and creating an environment that is conducive for him to give us his best.

“That’s exactly what he did. We had faith in him. By the time he came, we were sitting in a very awkward position [on the log], in the relegation zone. Today, we are excited that we managed to retain the status.”
