Sekhukhune United bolster squad with Baroka trio

Sekhukhune United have snapped up a Baroka FC trio as they look to bolster their squad for the upcoming Betway Premiership season.

The club has completed the acquisition of midfielder Sydney Malivha, Dan Ndhlovu and winger Thuso Mogale from the Motsepe Foundation Championship side.

These three additions follow the recent signing of Miguel Timm, who joins them from Orlando Pirates, as head coach Eric Tinkler reshapes his team. Tinkler, who took the helm in March after the departure of Lehlohonolo Seema, is clearly building a side he believes will be highly competitive in the next campaign.

Tinkler began restructuring his squad as early as April, making significant changes. Babina Noko released a number of players due to struggles with game time and squad integration.

Kamohelo Sithole, 28, a left winger, was let go after only making one appearance this season. 29-year-old right back, Katlego Mkhabela, started 12 games but was shown the exit door.

Veteran midfielder Pogiso Mahlangu, 32, who featured in just three matches this season, was also off-loaded alongside Cameron Carnell. The 22-year-old full-back made four appearances during the season.

Most recently, the club has also parted ways with AFCON-winning goalkeeper Badra Sangare.

WHAT BAROKA FC TRIO BRING TO SEKHUKHUNE UNITED

Thuso Mogale, a 23-year-old left winger, netted three goals in 24 appearances across all competitions for Bakgaga. Talented midfielder Ndhlovu, who is also 23, also scored three goals in 25 appearances in the second-tier.

Meanwhile, midfielder Sydney Malivha featured prominently in 29 games. Malivha, a long-term target for the Limpopo side, made an impact during Baroka FC’s Nedbank Cup quarter-final clash against Pirates in February at Orlando Stadium, coming on as a second-half substitute. He famously scored a consolation goal in their 3-1 defeat.

After failing to secure a CAF spot by virtue of finishing fourth, Sekhukhune will be aiming for an improved season.
