Former Kaizer Chiefs and Platinum Stars coach Cavin Johnson has offered candid advice to Kobamelo Kodisang, who has been struggling to find his footing since joining Mamelodi Sundowns.
The talented winger joined Sundowns at the start of the 2024/25 Betway Premiership on a long-term contract. Kodisang signed with the Brazilians from Portuguese side, Moreirense FC.
In his first season with Downs, Kodisang has had a challenging start after struggling to break into the starting line-up. The former South African junior international has featured in 13 matches across all competitions, scoring two goals and providing two assists.
Kodisang has faced tough competition in the star-studded Sundowns team from players such as Lucas Ribeiro Costa, Themba Zwane, Thapelo Maseko, Tashreeq Matthews, and Neo Maema.
JOHNSON TELLS KOBAMELO KODISANG TO RETURN TO THE PITCH

With the 25-year-old starved for game-time, his former coach, Cavin Johnson, has advised him to find a way to start playing football again, even if it means making a return to Europe. The ex-SuperSport United mentor gave Kodisang his PSL debut in 2015 when the duo worked together at the now-defunct Platinum Stars.
โI think Kodisang is old enough now and he should be able to make his own decisions; he probably saw what he could do or gain at Sundowns,โ Johnson said.
โHeโs young as far as football is concerned, so the one thing he has to do is to compete with his counterpart, Gift Links, and you can see that Links is a king in Denmark.
โSo Kodisang must remember that when he was in Portugal, he was doing very well. The only thing I can say is that you have to return to the pitch, my boy.
โYou have to make sure to return to the pitch even if itโs on loan or going back overseas, but you just have to make sure that you’re back on the field.โ
