Chippa United are reportedly close to securing the services of Cape Town Spurs midfielder Khaya Mfecane, whose contract is set to expire at the end of June.

Mfecane will be available on a free transfer following CT Spursโ€™ relegation from the Motsepe Foundation Championship to the third division of SA football.

Despite previous attempts by CT Spurs to sell the talented 23-year-old for a substantial R5 million, their inability to renew his contract means he can now sign with any club of his choice. This development has piqued the interest of several Betway Premiership clubs who were previously targeting the out-of-contract midfielder.

A product of the CT Spurs academy, Mfecane rose through their development system after being promoted during the 2019/20 season when the club was still known as Ajax Cape Town. The former South African youth international is known for his versatility, capable of filling in as both a midfielder and a right-back, a role in which he particularly shined under coach Ernst Middendorp.

Mfecane had previously attracted interest from a number of clubs, including TS Galaxy. However, no deals materialised as none were willing to meet CT Spursโ€™ asking price.

CHIPPA UNITED NEGOTIATIONS WITH KHAYA MFECANE AT AN ADVANCED STAGE

The talks between Mfecane and Chippa are at an advanced stage, and the deal could be concluded in the coming few weeks. โ€œItโ€™s as good as done, just a few finer details and the deal is done,โ€ a source told FARPost.

Mfecane isn’t the only Spurs player drawing attention. Asanele Velebayi is anticipated to receive numerous offers after the club previously blocked a potential move to Kaizer Chiefs. Luke Baartman is also likely to attract interest from various clubs.

Additionally, Siviwe Nkwali, a 19-year-old right-back, has already signed a pre-contract to join Stellenbosch FC next season, following a strong performance at the AFCON Under-20 tournament.

In recent years, the Cape Town side has been a breeding ground for talented players. However, their relegation after competing in the top-flight league during the 2023/24 season has led to the departure of key players such as Rushwin Dortley, Chumani Butsaka, and Ashley Cupido.
