Basadien on importance of having Kabini’s at Bafana after Norwegian move

Samukelo Kabini in Molde FK colours

Stellenbosch FC star Fawaaz Basadien has shared his thoughts on the importance of having Samukele Kabini in the Bafana Bafana squad following the player’s move to Norway.

Kabini joined Molde FK in Norway in March this year following his satisfying displays at Betway Premiership side TS Galaxy, where he spent two seasons.

The 21-year-old talented left-back signed a deal that will see him stay at Molde until 2028.

Before moving abroad, Kabini was a key player for Galaxy, having made 24 appearances in all competitions. He netted three goals and provided one assist.

Kabini is part of Hugo Broos‘ Bafana squad for the two international friendly matches against Tanzania and Mozambique.

The former Galaxy player was absent when Bafana played out to a 0-0 draw with the Taifa Stars last Friday in the first friendly game. However, he’s expected to feature in the second friendly match against Mozambique on Tuesday, June 10, as coach Hugo Broos aims to give every player an opportunity.

The game between Bafana and Mozambique will start at 19:30. This showdown will take place at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium.

WHAT FAWAAZ BASADIEN SAID ABOUT SAMKELO KABINI

Basadien mentioned that Kabini possesses strong qualities and has been tracking him since his time with the Rockets, and aims to learn a thing or two from him.

“I think this is the first time I’m playing with Kabini. For me, he is a good person. He is not very loud; he is very quiet and to himself, but obviously a good player with good qualities,” said Basadien.

“I followed him when he was still at TS Galaxy, so I know more about his style of play and what his strengths and weaknesses are.

“But for me, I think it is also important to learn from him as well. There are things that he is good at that I’m not good at.

“So, this whole camp with new players coming in is an opportunity to learn from other players where you are lacking and also try to help those players. I think it is a big opportunity to play with Kabini and maybe try to learn from him.”
