Following the departure of Chippa United’s senior team coaches, Thabo September and Mabhuti Khenyeza, uncertainty lingers regarding the future of the club’s DStv Diski Challenge coach, Carlos Mtshamba.
Chippa have recently announced the arrival of Sinethemba Badela as the new head coach ahead of the 2025/26 PSL season. This change comes after the release of September and Khenyeza, whose contracts expired and were not renewed by the club.
Their reserve side coach, Mtshamba, may also be parting ways with the club as he is out of contract at the end of June. He signed a one-season deal with the club in August 2024, which runs out at the end of the month. At the time, the club’s chairman, Chippa Mpengesi, stated that Mtshamba was a perfect fit to lead the club’s young talent.
Mtshamba is the director of the Carlos Soccer Academy in East London, which houses 80 players across different age groups. He is credited with discovering the talent of Aphelele Teto, who is on the verge of joining Livingston FC in the Scottish Premiership.

Indications suggest that the two parties have yet to sit down to discuss the coach’s future, and it is possible that his contract could run out.
And according to sources, the DDC coach is on the radar of several teams in Gauteng, Mpumalanga, and KZN. Mtshamba managed the team under difficult conditions last season, as the players were not together consistently and only met just before matches, which affected their performances.
Meanwhile, the Chilli Boys are going through a restructuring exercise, having appointed a new sporting director. Sinesipho Mali, who also serves as the head tactical analyst for Bafana Bafana, has recently been appointed as the sporting director.
The former Kaizer Chiefs and Sekhukhune United scout has been implementing changes at Chippa to ensure a fully functional technical team across the board.
