Betway Premiership side Chippa United have confirmed the appointment of Sinethemba Badela as their new head coach followingย his departure from Wydad Casablanca.

The former Wydad AC assistant coach, Badela, takes over from Thabo September, who left Chipap after the conclusion of the 2024/25 season.

September guided the side to an 11th-place finish after he also took over from Kwanepe Kopo in the middle of the season. On the other hand, Badela spent the past season as Wydad Athletic Club’s assistant to Rulani Mokwena.

This marks Badela’s first appointment as a head coach in top-flight football, following his previous experience in South Africa’s first division.

But The Chilli Boys have not yet disclosed the length of his contract, and further announcements regarding his technical team will be made in due course.

โ€œWe are proud to announce the appointment of Mr Sinethemba Badela as the new Head Coach of Chippa United Football Club, ahead of what promises to be a defining 2025/26 season,” ย the club said on Wednesday.

โ€œWe have built a reputation for giving young and emerging coaches the opportunity to lead, choosing innovation over recycling and purpose over familiarity. Football is evolving, and so are we.

โ€œCoach Badela brings with him international experience, having served as assistant coach at Wydad AC in Morocco, one of the most decorated clubs in African football. He now steps into this leadership role with the backing of our club, our supporters, and the province we call home,โ€ they added.

โ€œAs the only PSL club in the Eastern Cape, we carry not just the hopes of our supporters, but the weight of regional pride. We strive to be more than a club – we are a symbol of possibility, a beacon for talent, and a footballing home for the Pride of the Eastern Cape.

โ€œCoach Badela will lead our technical preparations for the new season, and additional members of the technical team will be announced in due course.โ€
