Chippa United is in talks to re-sign Bafana Bafana goalkeeper Veli Mothwa for the 2025/26 Betway Premiership season, with his current contract at AmaZulu set to expire at the end of June.
Mothwa made a name for himself at Chippa between 2016 and 2020 before joining KZN-based AmaZulu. The 34-year-old went on to establish himself as one of the best goalies in the PSL, getting a nod in the Bafana squad in recent years.
However,ย in the previous campaign, Mothwa has seen a dip in form and lost his position as the first-choice goalkeeper at AmaZulu. Mothwa was replaced by Richard Ofori in the starting line-up between the sticks after consistently conceding costly mistakes at Usuthu.
The shot stopper who was previously linked with Orlando Pirates has also lost his position in Hugo Broosโ Bafana Bafana squad amid his struggles with form at club level.
Mothwa will see his existing contract with AmaZulu come to an end on the 30th of June 2025. He has been with the Sandile Zungu-owned team for five seasons.

The experienced keeper will leave AmaZulu when his contract expires, and Chippa United are working behind the scenes to sign him on a free transfer.
At AmaZulu, Mothwa has featured in 124 matches in all competitions. He conceded 113 goals and kept 55 clean sheets. A source close to FARPost has revealed that the Chilli Boys have opened talks with the Pretoria-born player, with the reunion on the cards.
โVeli Mothwa will leave AmaZulu when his contract expires, and he is already talking to Chippa United in preparation for the next season,โ a source said.
โI think you might have seen that the goalkeeping department has been a concern at Chippa, especially after Stanley Nwabali had a bit of a slump. So it’s just a matter of both parties agreeing on terms, then it will be done.โ
