Kaizer Chiefs end Mabuya pursuit after sealing Monyane deal

Kaizer Chiefs have ended their pursuit of Richards Bay FC defender Lwandile Mabuya after securing the services of former Orlando Pirates star Thabiso Monyane.

Amakhosi wasted no time, moving swiftly to initiate talks with Monyane following his unexpected departure from Pirates last week.

FARPost has it on good authority that the 25-year-old has signed for the Phefeni Glamour Boys. All that remains is for him to pass his medical tests before the move is fully finalised.

Monyane’s arrival is expected to significantly impact the competition for the right-back slot, currently occupied by Dillan Solomons and Reeve Frosler. If they are retained, they will be fighting for a starting berth against Monyane.

CHIEFS PRIORITISE MONYANE, HALT MABUYA PURSUIT

Chiefs have now diverted their attention away from Richards Bay defender Mabuya as they seem covered for the right-back position.

Mabuya has been on Amakhosi’s radar for quite some time, having impressed with his solid displays for the Natal Rich Boyz over the last two campaigns.

Since joining Richards Bay in 2020, the versatile right-back has been a key component of their squad, making a total of 56 appearances in all competitions and contributing two goals.

Meanwhile, Chiefs have also completed the signing of Paseka Mako, who, similar to Monyane, still needs to undergo and pass his medical tests before the deal is finalised. The left-back was also released by Ezimnyama Ngenkani in the past week.

The 31-year-old parted company with the Sea Robbers after a seven-year stay at the club, having joined them back in July 2018 from Chippa United.

One of the challenges for Chiefs, especially in the recently ended season, has been the instability of the left-back position, where they were constantly chopping and changing players.

For the majority of the season, Chiefs head coach Nasreddine Nabi rotated between Bradley Cross and Dove Edmilson. Ditlhokwe filled in there too, prior to his departure during the mid-season.
