South African striker Siyabonga Ligendza has made another move overseas ahead of the 2025/26 season in England.

Ligendza has become Alfreton Town FC’s first summer signing after transferring from National League South side Eastbourne Borough.

The club confirmed his signing via their social media platforms, and the player, who was developed at Cardiff City FC, shared his excitement about the move. This development means the 22-year-old will play at the Impact Arena in the sixth tier of English football next season.

The striker spent time on loan at Eastbourne Borough early in 2024 before joining them permanently from AFC Fylde.

He joined AFC Fylde from Cardiff City, where he began his career at the age of 8, working his way through the academy system. The Leicester-born forward signed a professional contract with the Welsh club in 2021, netting 40 goals over two-and-a-half years for the development squads at Cardiff City Stadium.

SIYA LIGENDZA HOPING FOR BETTER FORTUNES

Ligendza, born in Leicester, is eager to make valuable contributions to Alfreton’s objectives in the upcoming season. “I’m really excited to be joining the club and look forward to contributing towards achieving our goals for the season,” said Ligendza.

Possessing both Welsh and South African citizenship, he was named on the preliminary shortlist for South Africa’s 2021 Olympic Games squad in Tokyo. However, an injury prevented him from being part of the team that was coached by David Notoane. He hopes to revive his career at his new club.

The talented forward, who lived with his grandmother in Pretoria for a year, was once under consideration by England. Wales was aware of his potential, and Germany – his father’s home country – could also have been a national team option for him. The lanky forward previously represented Wales’ Under-18 national team.
