Orlando Pirates defender Nkosinathi Sibisi has shared his thoughts after being tipped for the Betway Premiership Defender of the Season accolade.

The 29-year-old Sibisi was a key figure for the Buccaneers throughout the recently concluded 2024/25 season. He played a crucial role in their journey to the CAF Champions League semi-finals and their second-place finish in the Premiership.

Sibisi was also instrumental in Pirates’ MTN8 triumph, the club’s sole piece of silverware during the 2024/25 PSL campaign. The Bafana Bafana international showcased his consistency, featuring in 42 matches across all competitions and scoring two goals.

After displaying good performances, the former Golden Arrows player has been tipped by ex-Kaizer Chiefs defender Fabian McCarthy for the Betway Premiership Defender of the Season accolade, alongside the Stellenbosch FC duo of Fawaaz Basadien and Thabo Moloisane.

NKOSINATHI SIBISI COMMENTS ON THE BETWAY PREMIERSHIP DEFENDER OF THE SEASON ACCOLADE ENDORSEMENT

Sibisi expressed a humble outlook, stating he doesn’t want to exert excessive pressure on himself and will “let God decide” the outcome of the Defender of the Season award.

“Look, the guys you have mentioned [Fawaaz Basadien and Thabo Moloisane] are top players. You know Fawaaz; you don’t need any explanation about him. Thabo, on the other hand, has been doing very well for Stellenbosch,” said Sibisi.

“It’s always nice when we meet up together. There’s no sort of competition; we just have to do our best for our clubs. Hopefully, that’s rewarded.

“As for the Defender of the Season, we’ll just let God take his way. If it’s meant to be, it will be. If it’s not, we will then carry on and move on.”

Meanwhile, three weeks ago, FARPost reported that the Sea Robbers activated the two-year option on Sibisi’s contract as part of their preparations for the upcoming season.
