Bafana Bafana international Percy Tau has revealed the monthly salary he would expect Kaizer Chiefs to pay him if the Soweto giants are to secure his services.

The 31-year-old recently concluded his tenure in the Qatar Stars League with Qatar SC. He had joined the club on a short-term contract in January 2025 following his departure from Al Ahly.

But the Qatar club opted against extending his stay, leaving him as a free agent.

This development has left Tau weighing his options for the upcoming 2025/26 season. A return to the PSL could be a masterstroke for the former Mamelodi Sundowns and Al Ahly attacker. It offers him a chance to revitalise his career after a recent dip in form and to sharpen himself ahead of the 2025 AFCON in Morocco.

Naturally, all eyes are on which club will move to secure his services. Tau, however, has made it clear he’s ready to listen to offers from any Betway Premiership club.

PERCY TAU NAMES R450K PRICE FOR PSL RETURN, OPEN TO CHIEFS

Tau has put a figure on his desired monthly salary for a potential return to the South African top flight, indicating he would be willing to accept R450,000 from Kaizer Chiefs or any other PSL club.

During a conversation with Robert Marawa on Radio 94.7, Tau was pressed on his expected monthly salary if he were to join Amakhosi.

Marawa put it directly to Tau: “I am Kaizer [Motaung], I at Naturena offer you R450,000 a month. Do you accept?”

Tau, quick to consider the terms, replied, “For how many years?”

“You sign two with an option,” Marawa added.

“Perfect,” Tau confirmed, indicating his acceptance of the proposed amount and contract length.

However, Tau also made it clear that his eyes are not only on the big three – Mamelodi Sundowns, Chiefs and Orlando Pirates.

“I will listen if there are offers, I’m not ruling out anyone. There’s a lot to take in, to consider, you have to consider age, how long the contract is and then family,” Tau declared.

Interestingly, the stylish forward added that Chiefs is the club he passionately supported while growing up.

“If that situation were to happen [to receive an offer from Chiefs], I would pay attention to it,” he admitted. “But there are still other clubs in the PSL. I mean, I played for Sundowns, so I cannot write them off. It’s a team that I played for, I won, and I’ve got so much love for the team and the fans. If Sundowns were not to offer me a contract and Chiefs does, then it won’t be my fault but theirs that I’ve gone to join Chiefs.

“But I’ll listen to anybody, so let’s not rule out Orlando Pirates or even Stellenbosch FC, SuperSport United. I will not rule out anyone. My decision will be based on who gives me a contract because at the end of the day, I still have to support my family,” Tau added.

Meanwhile, Tau also responded to claims that he is expensive to secure. “People might say that, but now that I’m here, I can speak up for myself.

“I’m very reasonable, so whenever I speak about my contract dealings, I’m not going to ask what I know you are not going to offer me.”
