With the fight to retain their Betway Premiership status in the PSL Relegation/Promotional Playoffs starting, Cape Town City FC have parted ways with two more players.

Last month, experienced midfielder Kamohelo Mokotjo confirmed his departure from the club after just one season.

Thulani Serero, who joined the team a few months ago, is also on his way out. However, the 35-year-old, who signed a short-term deal with the Citizens in February, decided to complete his contract and fight for the teamโ€™s top-flight survival in the Premiership Relegation/Promotional Playoffs.

Since returning to South African football after a decade abroad in the Netherlands and UAE, Serero has made seven appearances for CT City.

As the Citizens prepare for the mini league that will determine their future in the top-flight, they do so with a veteran boasting international and continental experience still by their side.

On Saturday afternoon, as CT City take on Orbit College FC at the Cape Town Stadium, they will be without Darwin Gonzalez and Amadou Soukouna.

Gonzalez, the Venezuelan winger, was set to be out of contract at the end of the month. However, the two parties could not agree on a new deal that would extend the 31-year-old’s stay beyond this season.

Consequently, the club agreed to let him leave before his contract officially expires. This season, Gonzalez made 29 appearances and scored five goals across all competitions. Since joining the club in 2022, he has played a total of 103 matches, netting 16 goals and providing nine assists.

Soukouna, who joined the club at the beginning of the season, has scored four goals in 27 matches across all competitions. Despite his efforts, the Citizens have struggled to find the back of the net, managing only 15 goals in their 28 league matches. The 32-year-old centre forward has also been released prior to the end of the season.

With Andries Ulderink poised to fully take over next season, the Dutchman has started to reshape the club. Known for his strong belief in nurturing young talent, CT City will look to rely on players such as Prins Tjiueza, Jody Ahshene, and Jaedin Rhodes in the playoffs.
