Motsepe Foundation Championship side Upington City FC has parted ways with former Mamelodi Sundowns attacker Promise Mkhuma.
Mkhuma signed with Upington in November 2024 on a free transfer after parting ways with Sundowns at the start of the 2024/25 Betway Premiership season.
The talented midfielder left the Brazilians following his struggles to break into the star-studded team. Before his permanent departure from Sundowns last season, Mkhuma was loaned out to AmaTuks and All Stars in the second-tier league.
Having come through the Masandawana junior ranks, the former SA junior international struggled to break into the starting line-up in the first team. The attacking midfielder featured in 23 matches across all competitions without scoring goals or contributing assists at Sundowns.
After having an unsuccessful spell with Sundowns’ senior team, Mkhuma joined Upington City looking to bring his career back on track. However, things didnโt go as planned after struggling to make a meaningful impact.
PROMISE MKHUMA ONLY MANAGED FOUR APPEARANCES AT UPINGTON

Mkhuma only played four matches in the league in the second round of the Motsepe Foundation for the Northern Cape side.
The 25-year-old joined Bafana Ba Gucci in a short-term deal with an option to renew for another year. However, Upington decided against triggering the option. Mkhuma is free to join any club of his choice as a free agent for the upcoming season.
Meanwhile, Upington is preparing for the 2025/26 campaign, and theyโre looking to improve from their disappointing show last season, which saw them finish at the bottom of the league table. They finished 12th on the log standings with 35 points after winning eight games, drawing 11, and suffering 11 defeats.
Upington City have been in the NFD for two seasons after gaining promotion from the ABC Motsepe League at the start of the 2022/23 season.
