Former Kaizer Chiefs defender Tsepo Masilela has weighed in on whether Bafana Bafana frontman Percy Tau would be a good signing for Amakhosi in the upcoming season.
Tau recently cut ties with Qatar SC, competing in the Qatar Stars League, having joined them in January 2025 from Egyptian powerhouse Al Ahly on a short-term deal.
However, Qatar SC has since decided not to renew his contract, leaving the former Mamelodi Sundowns star without a club.
Tau, though, has stated he is open to listening to proposals from any club in the Betway Premiership.

Masilela stated that Chiefs should sign Tau because he is a “true professional” who can help the Soweto giants reclaim their glory days with his ability to score goals. He also added that young players at Chiefs could look up to him, given his extensive experience.
“You know, he [Percy Tau] is a true professional. In big teams, you also want to have a couple of guys who are experienced like him, and the younger boys can look up to them,” said Masilela in conversation with SoccerBeat.
“A team like Kaizer Chiefs needs the quality of Tau’s calibre, to be honest, not just pace, but if they can also get a few players who will push them closer to competing with Mamelodi Sundowns. Orlando Pirates have been finishing second; it will push them closer in that bracket, in my opinion.
“He makes good runs. But at Kaizer Chiefs, you would look at the goal contribution from the wingers because that also counts in modern games.”
Masilela continued: “For example, Glody Lilepo scored six goals, having joined them halfway through the season. So, you can imagine if you have a winger like Percy who can provide that. I’m pretty sure he can get eight to 10 goals for Kaizer Chiefs if he plays regularly.
“I would use him more on the wing, and he is also versatile; he can play up front if you need him to.”
