Coach Vela Khumalo has identified the key reasons behind Bafana Bafana’s defeat against Angola in the 2025 COSAFA Cup final.
Bafana succumbed to a 3-0 defeat to Angola in the regional tournament’s final played at the Free State Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
A brace from Depu and a goal from Felicio Milson were enough to hand Angola the COSAFA Cup triumph.
As a result, Angola are COSAFA Cup winners for the second time in a row, having come into this tournament as the defending champions.

VELA KHUMALO ON BAFANA BAFANA’S LOSS AGAINST ANGOLA IN THE COSAFA CUP FINAL
Khumalo stated that they came into this game with their “energy depleted” from their semi-final tie against Comoros on Friday, June 13, 2025.
Bafana had only one day to rest before facing Angola in the COSAFA Cup final this past Sunday in Bloemfontein.
Meanwhile, he was impressed with the boys’ performances throughout the competition, citing that Hugo Broos will be able to choose some of the players from this Bafana COSAFA squad moving forward.
“We tried. We wanted to be more offensive, taking on players, but the energy was somehow depleted because of the previous game we played, which is not an excuse. But we take silver, as I said,” Khumalo told SuperSport TV.
“However, good lessons, I think it was good exposure for our boys. I think Hugo Broos has seen them now and can make decisions on them.
“We had quality, we had a talented team, we played very well, and it is up to the coach to see who he can pick, one or two in this team will beef up the senior Bafana Bafana.”
