Kaizer Chiefs have confirmed the departure of experienced Mozambican international defender Edmilson Dove ahead of the upcoming 2025/26 PSL season.

Dove’s contract with Amakhosi is set to expire at the end of June, and the club has opted against renewing it.

The 30-year-old signed for Amakhosi in August 2022 from UD Songo in his home country, where he spent six months after leaving Cape Town City FC.

In the just-ended Betway Premiership campaign, Dove played 13 games across all competitions for Chiefs. He had limited playing time as the defender ruptured his Achilles tendon during the Chiefs’ pre-season training camp in Turkey before the start of the 2024/25 campaign.

As a result, Dove was forced to return to South Africa to undergo reconstructive surgery, which impacted his season at the Glamour Boys.

It took Dove seven months to recover from his long-term injury. He made his comeback against Mamelodi Sundowns in a Premiership tie in February 2025, having suffered his setback in July 2024.

Overall, he spent three seasons at the Nasreddine Nabi-coached side and managed to participate in 56 games, playing as a left-back and a centre-back.

KAIZER CHIEFS OFFICIAL STATEMENT ON EDMILSON DOVE’S DEPARTURE

“Kaizer Chiefs and defender Edmilson Dove will part ways when his contract expires at the end of June 2025,” said the club in a statement on Tuesday. “As a leader, he wore the captainโ€™s armband on a few occasions and also contributed with two goals for Chiefs.

“We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Edmilson for his contributions to the Club and wish him all the best in his future endeavours.”

Dove’s departure marks the fourth confirmed exit for Chiefs as they prepare for the new season. He joins Sabelo Radebe and Ranga Chivaviro, who were both released by the club, and Njabulo Blom, whose loan spell was not extended.

With his clearance from Amakhosi, Dove is now a free agent and can join any team of his choice. However, his next destination remains unknown as the new season approaches.
