‘Mayele has everything’ – Nomvethe on Chiefs’ striker search

Former Kaizer Chiefs forward Siyabonga Nomvethe has weighed in on the club’s ongoing striker search for the upcoming season, detailing the reasons why Fiston Mayele stands out as an excellent prospective signing.

Amakhosi have had persistent issues in front of goal for quite some time, lacking a reliable striker capable of consistently finding the back of the net for the team.

Last season, the top goal scorer for the team was Glody Lilepo, the mid-season arrival, who scored six Betway Premiership goals. Interestingly, he managed to surpass the scoring efforts of players who had been with the club for the entire campaign.

Nomvethe says Chiefs will need to work hard to get a striker who’ll be consistent in scoring goals. He strongly endorses Pyramids FC star Mayele as the ideal candidate.

He stated that the former Young Africans striker possesses all the qualities the team requires, needing only consistent ball provision from his teammates to excel.

NOMVETHE ENDORSES MAYELE AS THE IDEAL CANDIDATE FOR CHIEFS’ STRIKING ROLE

“You have to work hard to get a striker,” said Nomvethe. “You need to get someone who will give their best here, who always wants to up their game.

“And you know that it’s not easy to get a striker. But then Chiefs need to really hunt down the striker because when you look at this African guy [Fiston Mayele], he has everything, he needs people that he can play with.”

He went on to express his immense satisfaction that the club finally ended their decade-long trophy drought by closing off the 2024/25 season with the Nedbank Cup triumph.

“I was happy when the team won the trophy because it had taken 10 years not winning anything,” Nomvethe added.

“It was a big thing for the club to at least come back with something last season because they were a laughing stock. It’s not a good thing to play for a team that people take for granted. Yes, there are good and bad times but what the guys did, it showed they are determined to really come back stronger.”
