Durban City FC have extended the contracts of Saziso Magawana and Athini Jodwana ahead of the 2025/26 season. The KZN-based club recently earned the automatic promotion to the Betway Premiership after winning the 2024/25 Motsepe Foundation Championship.
They finished at the summit of the standings having accumulated 58 points after 30 league matches.
The Farouk Kadodia-owned side’s celebratory moment was put on hold for several weeks as the club navigated a period of intense legal contention. The legal dispute specifically involved Magawana, the player whose contract has now been extended by the club.
JDR Stars lodged a protest against the eligibility of Magawana, an appeal later joined by Cape Town Spurs. Both clubs alleged that Magawana was improperly registered by Durban City after his transfer from Marumo Gallants, arguing his clearance should have come from Leruma United, who had acquired Gallants’ status.
However, City won the case and the Championship trophy handover took place on Tuesday, 10 June in the SuperSport studios.

DURBAN CITY STRENGTHENING SQUAD FOR 2025/26 SEASON
Meanwhile, City are reportedly set to retain most of the players that came with the team from the second tier and blend with a few experienced players.
As previously reported by FARPost, Durban City are in discussions with Sekhukhune United regarding a potential transfer of defender Njabulo Ngcobo.
The 31-year-old only spent one season with Babina Noko, having joined the club at the beginning of the recently concluded 2024/25 campaign after departing Kaizer Chiefs.
However, Ngcobo didn’t enjoy the expected amount of playing time, as he largely remained out of favour under Lehlohonolo Seema last season.
At times, the former Moroka Swallows centre-back’s progress was also hampered by an injury, particularly in the middle of the season.
Ngcobo made only six appearances across all competitions throughout the season. This included five appearances in the Betway Premiership and one in the Carling Knockout Cup.
According to sources, the Limpopo club is open to letting the player go with Ngcobo also reportedly keen on a move to the Betway Premiership newbies.
