Kaizer Chiefs legend Nomvethe throws support behind Nabi
Kaizer Chiefs legend Siyabonga Nomvethe has thrown his support behind head coach Nasreddine Nabi ahead of the highly-anticipated 2025/26 season, which will see Amakhosi return to continental football.
The reports about Nabi’s possible sacking from the club emerged just after he led the Phefeni Glamours Boys to the Nedbank Cup triumph, ending the club’s 10-year trophy drought.
Despite the Nedbank success, Chiefs had a poor campaign in the Betway Premiership, ending the season in ninth place with 32 points after 28 matches. Nevertheless, their cup win ensures their participation in the CAF Confederation Cup, providing a consolation.
However, Nabi will be continuing his project of rebuilding the team next season after the club decided to retain him.
The former Young Africans mentor still has a year remaining on the two-year contract he signed with Chiefs, which also includes an option for a further year’s extension.
Nomvethe says Nabi should be given a “fair chance” and stated that the Tunisian coach wouldn’t “perform miracles” in his first year. He added that the Nedbank Cup triumph was, hopefully, the beginning of success at Chiefs.

“Nabi must be given his fair chance just like all other coaches,” said Nomvethe. “You can’t perform all miracles in one year. At times, it takes some time for things to come together properly.
“They must just let him do his job and not put him under pressure. We know that everyone is demanding the league, the cups and everything.
“But he has started to bring something in the trophy cabinet. Let’s hope that in this upcoming season, there will be more coming.”
Nomvethe is hoping that Chiefs will do their best to bring on board the quality signings that will strengthen the team ahead of the 2025/26 season.
“I’m hoping that they will do something [sign players],” Nomvethe added. “But sometimes putting a budget is not a child’s play. We’re talking millions here to buy a player. But I’m just hoping that we’ll see something now ahead of the new season.”
