Mamelodi Sundowns suffered a 4-3 defeat to Borussia Dortmund in their FIFA Club World Cup clash at TQL Stadium in Cincinnati on Saturday night.
The match was entertaining from the start as both sides wanted to break the deadlock in the opening minutes of the first half.
As the half wore on, Sundowns looked to be on the brighter side, as they pushed forward in numbers and came close to finding the back of the net through Tashreeq Matthews in the first five minutes of the match.
Sundowns continued to threaten the eight-time Bundesliga champions and finally opened the scoring in the 11th minute through Brazilian striker Lucas Ribeiro.
However, the contest began to settle into a slower rhythm, but Dortmund managed to redeem themselves and found an equaliser courtesy of Felix Nmecha after Ronwen Williams’ costly mistake at the back in the 16th minute.
Dortmund did not stop there as they added to the scoreline with Serhou Guirassy’s goal in the 34th minute of the showpiece.
In the 45th minute, Jobe Bellingham showed what he’s capable of, as he scored the third goal for Dortmund.
With the dominant display by Dortmund towards the interval, Bafana Ba Style were unable to find a breakthrough against the resilient German club.

BORUSSIA DORTMUND CRUISING NICELY AT THE HALF-TIME BREAK AGAINST MAMELODI SUNDOWNS
The half-time whistle blew with Dortmund comfortably leading Sundowns 3-1.
In the second stanza, Dortmund continued where they left off in the first half, with Khuliso Mudau scoring an own goal in the 60th minute.
However, after Dortmund’s fourth goal, Sundowns put in some hard work, as Miguel Cardoso’s boys began to find something of a foothold in the match.
Masandawana were rewarded with a goal from Iqraam Rayners in the 62nd minute. This was Rayners’ second goal at the tournament.
Lebo Mothiba scored the third goal for Sundowns in the 90th minute. But it was too late for the Chloorkop-based outfit to find an equaliser.
The final whistle blew with Dortmund claiming maximum points against Sundowns.
Overall, it was a thrilling and beautifully exhilarating, intense affair in Cincinnati, Ohio.
