Wydad Athletic Club, currently competing in the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, are reportedly interested in securing the services of Kaizer Chiefs’ strength and conditioning coach, Majdi Safi.

Safi signed a two-year contract with the Chiefs in July 2024 after joining alongside head coach Nasreddine Nabi. He joined the Soweto giants after leaving Wydad.

Safi, renowned in Morocco for his exceptional expertise, has had notable tenures with both Wydad and their city rivals, Raja Casablanca. He has been recommended to work alongside Mohamed Amine Benhachem, who replaced Rulani Mokwena at Wydad, next season.

Nabi has publicly praised Safi’s impressive contributions at Amakhosi. With Wydad’s ambitious overhaul of their technical team, the opportunity for Safi to return could present an enticing proposition, especially given reports of a lucrative offer from the club.

In February, after playing three games in just six days, Nabi praised Safi for his exceptional work. Chiefs faced off against Orlando Pirates in a high-intensity match, which they lost 1-0. Three days later, they played an entertaining 2-2 draw with AmaZulu FC before travelling to Cape Town to take on Stellenbosch FC.

WHAT NABI HAS SAID ABOUT MAJDI SAFI’S WORK

Following their 1-0 victory over Stellenbosch, Nabi credited Majdi. “My congratulations and credit go to our fitness coach, Safi Majdi,” he said then.

“He is a very competent fitness coach, he has been in big clubs, Wydad, Tunisia national team, and we knew that his work is fantastic even during the week. We were all relaxed because he told us the process of three games in six days.

“That’s why at the beginning of the season I insisted to bring my own staff because I know that it’s people that are competent, it’s people that work very hard, and we are in this together and we hope that we gonna do more.”

The highlight of Safi’s career was helping Etoile du Sahel of Tunisia secure the league title for the 2022/23 season.
