Durban City chairman addresses Simo Dladla’s future

Durban City FC chairman Farouk Kadodia has addressed the future of head coach Simo Dladla amid speculation that the club is considering bringing in a different coach.

The KZN-based club was recently promoted to the Betway Premiership after winning the 2024/25 Motsepe Foundation Championship.

Durban City ended their league campaign on a high note, accumulating a formidable total of 58 points across 30 league matches. The team notched up a remarkable 17 victories, drew seven encounters, and suffered defeat on only six occasions.

However, the club encountered a significant challenge towards the end of the season, navigating an intense legal dispute. This involved their player, Saziso Magawana, whose eligibility was formally protested by JDR Stars and Cape Town Spurs.

For a while, this situation cast a shadow of doubt, instilling fear that points deductions could derail their promotion aspirations. Despite this stumbling block, the club successfully prevailed in the case. Ultimately, they ended the season at the top of the league standings.

Now, with the 2025/26 Betway Premiership approaching, Durban City are said to be considering a coaching change.

However, speaking with this website, Durban City chairman, Kadodia, said they are “yet to make a decision on the coach” as they are currently “in negotiations with the coach”.

KADODIA ON SIMO DLADLA’S FUTURE – ‘WE HAVE NOT MADE A DECISION YET’

“There’s nothing wrong going on with the coach,” said Kadodia, speaking with FARPost.

“All I can tell you is, there’s no decision taken on the coach. We have not made a decision yet; we are in negotiations with the coach to see how we can come to an agreement.”

As previously reported by FARPost, Durban City have approached Owen Da Gama, who saved Magesi FC from relegation in the recently ended season.

They are also considering bringing on board Sean Connor, currently with Jwaneng Galaxy, after winning the Orange FA Cup in Botswana.

Another candidate being considered is Roger De Sa, currently an assistant coach under Diogo Peral at Cape Town City. His future with the Citizens is uncertain, with the club taking part in promotion/relegation playoffs.
