Despite the embarrassing court interdict drama at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane, Limpopo were able to crown their SAFA ABC Motsepe League champions.

The fixture between Mpheni Defenders from stream A and the Dolphins from stream B came at the back of court battles in the province.

The Dolphins were challenged legally by stream B rivals Sunrise FC, who approached the Limpopo High Court on Tuesday to interdict the match.

This is due to a pending arbitration review that still needs to be heard before the courts. An interdict was only issued an hour before the match, but SAFA Limpopo went ahead with the fixture.

DRAMA AT THE OLD PETER MOKABA STADIUM AS A POLICE OFFICER STOPPED AN OFFICIAL MATCH

While the two teams were busy with their warm-up at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium, a sheriff at the match venue was present with court papers.

At first, the two teams insisted that the interdict had nothing to do with them and therefore they would continue with the match.

But to the surprise of everyone at the stadium, the sheriff returned with police officials just after the resumption of the second half.

A female police officer stormed the field to order the match referee to stop the match because of the court order. But after deliberations between SAFA officials and the police, the match went ahead.

WHO WON THE LIMPOPO ABC MOTSEPE LEAGUE PROVINCIAL PLAYOFFS?

The Dolphins will now represent Limpopo at the National playoffs to be held in Gauteng from 1-6 July. They defeated defending champions Mpheni defenders 5-4 on penalties after a 1-1 draw in regulation time.

This is not the first time that the Dolphins have won the provincial playoffs. They were crowned champions in 2017 but fell short despite hosting the national playoffs at the University of Limpopo.
