Lorch’s next move: Ramoreboli weighs in on Wydad or PSL return

Thembinkosi Lorch in action for Wydad Athletic Club

Morena Ramoreboli, former coach to Thembinkosi Lorch, has shared his views on whether the talented winger should remain at Wydad Athletic Club or make a return to SA once his loan spell with the Moroccan giants ends.

Ramoreboli coached the 31-year-old Lorch during his time at Maluti FET College, then competing in the Vodacom League [now the ABC Motsepe League]. Lorch was famously part of the Maluti FET team that upset Orlando Pirates in the first round of the Nedbank Cup back in 2013.

Lorch joined Wydad on loan in January of this year from Mamelodi Sundowns. He reunited with coach Rulani Mokwena there, who has since departed the club.

Lorch’s loan spell at Wydad is set to conclude on July 31, 2025. Since joining the Botola Pro League side, Lorch has experienced a remarkable resurgence, even shining on the global stage at the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup.

Despite Wydad’s overall challenging campaign, he’s delivered decent performances, notably causing problems for Manchester City in their opening game. He followed that with another lively display and a goal in their 4-1 defeat to Juventus. In total, he has scored three goals in 17 games across all competitions for the club.

His remarkable turnaround was further highlighted when he was named Wydad Casablanca’s Player of the Month for March 2025, leading to calls for his return to the Bafana Bafana squad.

MORENA RAMOREBOLI’S ADVICE TO THEMBINKOSI LORCH

The Botswana National Team head coach, Ramoreboli, insists that Lorch should consider staying at Wydad, pointing out that the Moroccan atmosphere is beneficial for him and motivates him to put in more effort.

However, it remains unclear whether Lorch’s loan deal with Wydad includes an option to buy or if it is a straightforward loan. Furthermore, Sundowns’ willingness to sell the player has not been confirmed.

“I think I have watched a couple of matches so far from the Moroccan Premier League. If I were to advise him, he must continue to play there because the league’s intensity and the environment always keep him working hard, and the supporters there always want to win,” Ramoreboli told FARPost.

“So, I think it’s a good environment for him. However, I would say that if he comes back to SA, he should join a team where he will compete and win trophies. That’s one part I think will help him.

“I have watched him play [in Morocco], and I believe that he is a winner. So, he needs to go to an environment where he will win. If he comes back home, he should join a team that will help him achieve greater things.”
