George Maluleka: The latest on midfielder’s future

Following 12 appearances in the Motsepe Foundation Championship, an update has emerged concerning midfielder George Maluleka’s future at Kruger United as the club prepares for the 2025/26 season.

Kruger United, an ambitious team that had just been promoted from the ABC Motsepe League, secured veteran midfielder Maluleka in September 2024 for their debut season in the second-tier league.

Though he had several offers from the Betway Premiership, Maluleka chose the second-tier club as his priorities changed. The 36-year-old said his decision to join Kruger United was driven by his desire to help groom younger players.

As such, George Maluleka naturally emerged as a key pillar for Kruger United, who finished the season in fifth place, narrowly missing out on a spot in the PSL Promotional/Relegation Playoffs on the final day of the season. In addition, Maluleka, who is keen on grooming young talent, seems to have forged a strong bond with the club.

With over 15 years of experience in the South African top-flight, having spent significant time at Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns, Maluleka has stood out as a perfect leader for Kruger.

FARPost has been informed that Kruger United are set to keep Maluleka for the 2025/26 Motsepe Foundation Championship.

Maluleka has forged a good working relationship with the club leadership and could be offered a role in the team at the end of his stay.

“The coaches want him. He is top of the list of players that our coaches want to be prioritised. So he will be here next season since the coaches want to keep him,” a source told FARPost.

Maluleka joined Kruger United on a one-year contract following his departure from AmaZulu FC where he spent two years.

For Kruger United, Maluleka made 12 appearances and managed to score one goal. Nevertheless, that was enough to earn him another dance with the Bushbuckridge-based club.

Additionally, they will be hoping to pick from their decent 2024/25 Motsepe Foundation season, with hopes that they can seriously challenge for the promotion ticket to the Betway Premiership.
