John Comitis confirms arrival of new Cape Town City coach

Cape Town City FC chairman John Comitis has confirmed that the man who will guide his club next season has arrived in South Africa.

This comes after Cape Town City’s recent relegation to the Motsepe Foundation Championship following their 1-0 loss to Orbit College FC on Wednesday.

The search for a new coach began after Andries Ulderink, who had initially arrived to take charge of CT City, unexpectedly departed to accept an offer from German giants Bayer Leverkusen.

Ulderink had already travelled to South Africa and conducted a few training sessions with City, preparing them for the PSL Promotional/Relegation Playoffs. He is set to assist his countryman, former Ajax Amsterdam and Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag, at Leverkusen.

WHO IS CAPE TOWN CITY FC’S NEW COACH?

Although he did not confirm the name, indications are that CT City have appointed Dutch coach Jan Vreman as their new head coach.

Following Ulderink’s abrupt exit, CT City quickly entered into talks with Vreman for the vacant head coach role.

Vreman is expected to lead Cape Town City as they compete in the Motsepe Foundation Championship during the 2025/26 season, with the aim of regaining their top-flight status. He will get a feel of where the team is when they play the dead-rubber playoff against Casric Stars at home on Monday.

JOHN COMITIS CONFIRMS NEW COACHโ€™S ARRIVAL AT CAPE TOWN CITY FC

Comitis confirmed that CT City wasted no time preparing for the upcoming season, irrespective of their Premiership status.

โ€œWeโ€™re working around the clock to see what the possibilities are. Weโ€™ve already got our new coach whoโ€™s arrived in the country for next season, either way,โ€ he told MSW during the week.

Vreman is a Dutch football legend, having spent much of his career at De Graafschap Doetinchem FC in the Netherlands. The 59-year-old arrived at the club as a player in the early 1980s before transitioning to coaching.

He initially held roles in the youth coach structures before becoming caretaker manager and then head coach. He left the club in January 2025.
