Baroka FC chairman Khurishi Mphahlele has explained why star player Kabelo Kgositsile remains at the club, even after signing a deal with Orlando Pirates.
As FARPost had reported in March 2025, Pirates showed interest and signed Kgositsile as well as versatile defender Tshepho Mashiloane.
The duo had been impressive for the Motsepe Foundation Championship side since making their respective debuts. They were also key when Baroka came close to promotion during the 2023/24 season, but failed during the PSL Promotional/Relegation Playoffs.
Mashiloane was among the new players unveiled by the Buccaneers on Wednesday, while the club said nothing on winger Kgositsile.

Mphahlele has since explained to this publication why they opted to hold on to Kgositsile for another season.
“Yes, we have a deal with Pirates. He is staying with us for the 2025/26 season. He will only join Pirates after next season.”
“He is not joining Pirates now because we still need him. He is a quality boy who still needs to contribute to this club.”

“I am proud of both these players; they have been good to the club and deserve their chance. I have no doubt that Mashiolane will make his mark at Orlando Pirates like he did with us. He is a quality boy.”
Baroka recently returned for pre-season ahead of the upcoming season. Head coach Dan Malesela is set to continue in his role after re-joining them in the middle of last season.
However, the future of assistant coach Amukelani ‘Jay Jay’ Hlungwani is uncertain. Hlungwani has been with Baroka since 2023 after impressing during his stint at Mpheni Defenders in the ABC Motsepe League.
The club is also set to announce new players and departures next week.
