Ex-Pirates midfielder pens contract with European side

Former Orlando Pirates midfielder Wesley Ntshangase unveiled as new signing

Former Orlando Pirates midfielder Wesley Ntshangase has signed a contract with a European side, bringing an end to his period as a free agent after being unattached for some time.

Ntshangase, whose career has largely unfolded in overseas football for close to ten years, had been clubless for over two years prior to starting this new chapter.

He signed a deal with Kosovo’s FK Mitrovica in January, but was unable toย join the team then due to unforeseen changes in the country’s visa requirements.

The process of getting everything in order took a lengthy three months, by which point the 2024/25 season was already coming to an end.

Ntshangase has now jetted out of the country to start the pre-season with his new club.

The player’s agent, Lebohang Mashishi, expressed his delight, sharing his hope that this move will help the player revive his career after a long time out of action.

AGENT HOPEFUL OF CAREER REVIVAL FOR NTSHANGASE

โ€œIโ€™m just happy that, being out of professional football for almost two and a half years now, he can go revive his career in Europe, as he has always played outside the country,โ€ Mashishi told FARPost.

โ€œHopefully, he can have a good, solid season, and then we can look at other options in the Middle East or around Eastern Europe, provided he does well where he is now.โ€

Ntshangase came through the Pirates development before he left the club after graduating.

He had a trial at Mamelodi Sundowns in 2014 under Pitso Mosimane’s leadership, but the Brazilians decided against offering him a contract.

โ€˜Vieraโ€™, as heโ€™s affectionately well-known, also trained with Kaizer Chiefs in 2015, hoping for a contract. However, Amakhosi didnโ€™t offer him a deal.

He also had unsuccessful trials at Mpumalanga Black Aces, Free State Stars, Polokwane City FC and Santos.

Overseas, he has previously turned out for Kayseri Erciyesspor, Hassleholms IF, Assyriska IF and IFK Mora, all in Sweden, where he spent six years.
