Newly-promoted Betway Premiership side Durban City FC is reportedly interested in former Golden Arrows defender Sicelokuhle Hlatshwayo.

The 31-year-old became the first player to depart Abafana Besโ€™thende after being granted his clearance upon the end of the previous season.

He ended an almost three-season stint with Abafana Besโ€™thende, having joined the club in November 2022 after his move from fellow Betway Premiership side, Marumo Gallants.

Hlatshwayoโ€™s exit came after he consistently struggled to secure game time, especially over the past two seasons.

After a hopeful start that saw him make 15 appearances in his first seven months with the Durban-based outfit, his role unexpectedly diminished. His involvement dropped drastically in the 2023/24 season to just two appearances, with an injury also affecting his progress. In the season that ended, Hlatshwayo was entirely excluded from play.

He was named as an unused substitute only once, during a 0-0 leagueย drawย against Polokwane City FC.

DURBAN CITY STRENGTHENING SQUAD FOR TOP-FLIGHT

Hlatshwayo has now attracted interest from Durban City, who are strengthening their squad ahead of their first season in the top-flight after their promotion.

Hlatshwayo made 17 appearances in all competitions in the colours of yellow and green of Golden Arrows.

Meanwhile, as previously reported by FARPost, Durban City have also set their sights on midfielder Celimpilo Ngema, who is a free agent after parting ways with AmaZulu FC.

Ngema and Usuthu went their separate ways in March due to the playerโ€™s disciplinary issues, according to this websiteโ€™s sources. He only played 15 matches in all competitions this past season, first under the co-coaching of Arthur Zwane and Vusumuzi Vilakazi, and then under Zwaneโ€™s sole leadership.

The Durban-based outfit also held talks with Sekhukhune United defender Njabulo Ngcobo after he didnโ€™t enjoy the expected amount of playing time since joining from Kaizer Chiefs. However, thereโ€™s still nothing concrete coming out of negotiations.
