Skudu Makudubela signs for Angolan club Wiliete
Exciting South African winger Mahlatse ‘Skudu’ Makudubela has signed with Angolan side Wiliete Sport Club de Benguela after leaving Congolese giants AS Vita.
His contract with Vita ended on June 30, 2025, and he joined the Girabola club on a free transfer.
Makudubela, a former winger for Young Africans, made history as the first South African to play in the Democratic Republic of Congo [DRC]. He was also the first South African to compete in Tanzania’s vibrant football league.
After leaving Marumo Gallants at the end of the 2021/22 Betway Premiership season, Makudubela spent a year in East Africa, where he quickly became a fan favourite with Yanga.
Under coach Miguel Gamondi, the team secured the NBC Premier League title, the FA Cup, and reached the CAF Champions League quarterfinals.
Following his success in Tanzania, Makudubela joined DRC club AS Vita, where he scored three goals and provided one assist in his brief stint.
WHY WILIETE WAS APPEALING FOR SKUDU MAKUDUBELA
Wiliete finished second in the previous season, just behind Petro de Luanda. Petro accumulated 68 points in a 16-team league, while Wiliete earned 60 points after 18 wins, six draws, and six losses. Their finish qualifies Wiliete for participation in the CAF Champions League.
Based in Benguela, a city in western Angola, Wiliete’s success and continental ambitions attracted Makudubela. The 34-year-old attacker previously played a key role in Marumo’s most successful campaign three years ago and has also featured in the CAF Champions League with Yanga.
Makudubela is looking forward to returning to continental competitions — this time with Angolan club Wiliete, marking his journey in his third African country outside South Africa.
His career began at Mamelodi Sundowns, and he has also played for Orlando Pirates and Czech club Karvina FC.
