Motsepe Foundation Championship top goal scorer Muzomuhle Khanyi has joined Stellenbosch FC, bolstering their striking department for the upcoming season.

The Maroons are back from the off-season break, preparing for the highly-anticipated 2025/26 Betway Premiership.

Stellenbosch have been one of the competitive sides in the PSL, pushing Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates in the chase for major trophies.

Last season, Stellies finished third on the league table and qualified for the CAF Confederation Cup for the upcoming campaign.

The Steve Barker-coached team had an impressive run in the previous continental competition after making it to the semi-final. Stellenbosch were knocked out by Tanzanian giants Simba SC, who are coached by South African coach Fadlu Davids.

Meanwhile, Stellenbosch also reached the final of the 2024 MTN8, where they lost 3-1 against Orlando Pirates at the Moses Mabhida Stadium.

With the Western Cape-based outfit aiming to maintain their position as one of the top teams in the SA top-flight, they have beefed up the squad with Muzomuhle Khanyi.

The goal-poacher joined Stellenbosch from Championship side Hungry Lions FC after spending three seasons with the Northern Cape side.

Khanyi finished the last season as the leading scorer with 18 goals in the league, proving to be a clinical finisher in front of the goal.

The 26-year-old was also on the radar of several Betway Premiership clubs, including Orlando Pirates, before signing with Stellenbosch.

He’s expected to compete with Ashley Cupido for a starting line-up in the striking department. But Khanyi can also operate in the left and right wings, which increases his chances of playing regularly at the Winelands side.

In the current transfer window, Stellenbosch have also parted ways with experienced defender Brian Onyango, Liam De Kock, and Shaakir Ahmed.
