Day two of the SAFA ABC Motsepe League National Playoffs fixtures saw two teams of the seven clubs competing in the highly competitive tournament sent packing, while Thames FC and Gomora United booked their semi-final spots.
The 2024/25 Motsepe League National Playoffs officially kicked off on Tuesday at the Giant Stadium in Soshanguve, Gauteng.
Before the start of today’s matches, the SA Football Association National Executive Committee had an urgent meeting with team managers, head of referees, chairman of competitions, operations team and sponsor regarding their decision to ban Limpopo and Eastern Cape from participating in the tournament due to their pending judicial matters.
Following the meeting, a decision was made to eliminate the Limpopo and Western Cape teams from the national playoffs. This means that the group winners and the best second-placed team will advance to the semi-finals.
The amateur teams produced yet another set of fascinating games, despite the court drama cases that have overshadowed the tournament from the start.

GOMORA UNITED, THAMES FC AND THE BEES FC INTO SEMI-FINALS
In the first encounter of the day, Gauteng’s Gomora United thrashed African Warriors of Free State with a 3-0 scoreline in Group B.
The victory was enough to see Gomora, coached by well-travelled mentor Johnny Ferreira, progress to the semi-finals of the playoffs with three points.
Meanwhile, the Warriors’ loss to Gomora was the end of the road for them in the national playoffs.
Thames [North West] also booked their spot in the semis following their 2-1 win over Kakamas Juventus [Free State].
In addition, The Bees [Mpumalanga] advanced to the last four after defeating Midlands Wanderers [KZN] 1-0. As a result, Wanderers will have to wait for the results between Zizwe United and the Bees to see if they are eliminated or progress to the semis.
