A powerful new partnership between AmaZulu FC and Durban University of Technology [DUT] is set to champion both football development and academic excellence, while also driving significant social investment and community empowerment.

The two parties inked a groundbreaking Memorandum of Understanding [MoU] on Wednesday, 2 July at the Steve Biko Open House at DUT.

This pivotal agreement marks a key step in AmaZulu’s efforts to deepen their roots within the broader KwaZulu-Natal community.

PARTNERSHIP’S FOUR KEY PILLARS DESIGNED FOR MUTUAL BENEFIT

Support Base Activation:

By engaging the vibrant student community of DUT, AmaZulu will extend their supporter footprint among the youth and future leaders of KwaZulu-Natal. This is a golden opportunity to deepen the club’s cultural roots while fostering loyalty, school spirit, and brand affinity.

Talent Identification Program:

Through joint scouting, training, and coaching clinics, this partnership will unlock untapped sporting potential within the DUT student body. The Betway Premiership side will assist in building a pipeline from campus to professional football, giving raw talent a professional pathway.

CSI and Community Development Collaboration:

The MoU paves the way for co-branded Corporate Social Investment [CSI] initiatives, from youth coaching clinics and health & wellness boot camps, to educational drives. Together, AmaZulu FC and DUT want to impact beyond the pitch.

Access to Education:

In return, DUT opens its academic ecosystem to AmaZulu players, staff, and the wider footballing community. Through bursaries, short courses, and life-skills programmes, the university is empowering players to pursue parallel careers and prepare for life after football.

WHAT THE TWO PARTIES SAID – AMAZULU FC AND DUT

“AmaZulu FC and DUT have signed an MoU, uniting sports and education in a shared mission. Through this partnership, we aim to collaborate on initiatives that uplift communities and empower both players and students,” AmaZulu announced via a statement on social media.

Addressing the media, the club’s CEO, Sinenjabulo Zungu, said, “This is more than just a partnership.

“This partnership is about bridging that gap, creating meaningful pathways for both our players and the public. The beneficiaries will include our players and students alike.”

Meanwhile, Professor Fulufhelo Netswera, Executive Dean of the Faculty of Management Sciences at DUT said, “The partnership between DUT and AmaZulu FC is a meaningful one.

“Our primary intention is for DUT students to benefit from this partnership. However, there are also clear advantages for the club’s players, who will have access to our academic programmes—both full-time and through our short learning courses.

“These courses can help players better manage their finances, carry themselves professionally, and gain critical life and career skills. In turn, AmaZulu FC’s presence can inspire our students, and who knows—some of them may go on to become part of the club in the future.”
