John Maduka looks poised to be announced as the new head coach of Magesi FC, succeeding Owen Da Gama, FARPost has been informed.

The Limpopo-based club parted ways with Da Gama last week after the two parties failed to reach an agreement on a new contract.

‘Rubberdoll,’ as Da Gama is affectionately known, joined the club on a six-month contract and was instrumental in their survival.

When he arrived, Magesi were struggling to find footing in their debut top-flight season, sitting at the bottom of the table with just six points from 10 matches. The Carling Knockout Cup champions had recorded one win, three draws, and six losses.

Under his guidance, the team secured seven wins, four draws, and seven defeats, finishing the season in 13th place. The initial agreement was to review the contract at the end of the season, but reports suggest that Da Gama and the club could not agree on new terms.

JOHN MADUKA SET TO TAKE OVER FROM DA GAMA

Former Sekhukhune United coach Lehlohonolo Seema had been targeted as the club’s next coach. However, for unknown reasons, it appears he decided not to pursue the opportunity. Sources revealed to FARPost that the club then turned to Maduka.

The club reached an agreement with Maduka to lead the team in the upcoming 2025/26season. Maduka previously coached Royal AM in two stints, but the club was dissolved last season due to issues between their president, Shauwn Mkhize, and SARS.

Royal AM played only 11 games last season before being suspended, leaving Maduka currently without a coaching position. The 54-year-old will be expected to steer the club in a better direction in their second season in the Betway Premiership.

As Magesi gears up for the upcoming season, they announced the departure of 10 players. Gift Motupa, Neverdie Makhubela, Deolin Mekoa, Rhulani Manzini, Amos Mokwena, Boikanyo Komane, Maboke Matlakala, Anathi Ngwadla, Given Mashikinya, and Menzi Ndwandwe.
