Newly promoted Betway Premiership side Durban City FC is set to assess one of Zimbabwe’s lethal strikers, Washington Navaya, FARPost can reveal.

This development comes as the 2024/25 Motsepe Foundation Championship winners, fresh off their promotion, seeks to strengthen their squad for the upcoming Betway Premiership season.

And as reported by this publication, Durban City are also said to be eyeing Gavin Hunt as their new head coach, following the departure of Simo Dladla.

Agent Gibson Mahachi confirmed to FARPost that the Farook Kadodia-owned club will have four days to vet Zimbabwean striker Washington Navaya.

Navaya, who is in the books of TelOne FC, will travel to Durban on Sunday after their match against Triangle United FC. His contract with the Zimbabwean club ends in December 2025, but it seems Durban City FC is willing to pay for the striker.

Durban City missed out on Thandolwenkosi Ngwenya, who was signed by AmaZulu FC from FC Platinum. On Navaya, they are geared to sign him if he lives up to his billing during the assessment.

With ten goals in 18 matches, Navaya has spurred TelOne FC to third position in the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League of Zimbabwe. In addition, the 27-year-old is the joint top goalscorer with Billy Veremu of MWOS FC.

Navaya possesses exceptional qualities that have made him a cut above the rest in Zimbabwe’s PSL. Furthermore, his powerful physique, fantastic leap and dominance in the air have seen him score most of his goals from crosses and set-pieces.
