Former Kaizer Chiefs winger Kgaogelo Sekgota, now playing for Motsepe Foundation Championship side Upington City FC, has been admitted to a rehabilitation centre to address substance abuse.
Sekgota, who returned to South Africa in 2020, has unfortunately seen his once-promising career decline due to persistent off-field issues. The 28-year-old winger even secured a dream move to Kaizer Chiefs in 2021 and was at one point on the radar of Bafana Bafana.
But after an unsuccessful stint at Amakhosi, Sekgota joined Stellenbosch FC. His stay at the club was also cut short after just six months for violating Stellies’ code of conduct.
Limpopo side Magesi FC then gave Sekgota another lifeline before the beginning of the 2024/25 season, but he was released after just six months.
The former Bafana Bafana player is now at Motsepe Foundation Championship side Upington City, where he joined last season.

KGAOGELO SEKGOTA ADMITTED TO A REHAB CENTRE IN LIMPOPO
FARPost has gathered that the winger is now at the Hope of Achievers Rehabilitation Centre, situated in Segwashi village, east of Polokwane.
He is at the same centre where former Mamelodi Sundowns player Lerato Chabangu was admitted in Februaryย this year.
UPINGTON CITY BOSS DAVID MOGASHOA VOWS TO SUPPORT HIS PLAYER THROUGH A DIFFICULT PERIOD
In an interview with FARPost, Upington City boss David Mogashoa confirmed that he was aware that his player was at the centre. He also encouraged any other player who might be going through the same challenge to seek help.
โYou canโt dismiss a player because he is in rehab, so he still has an option with us,โ Mogashoa told FARPost.
โThe player needs support, so I am going to support him. As I speak with you now, you can hear that I am in a car. I am driving to Limpopo to see him. You don’t throw away people when they need help, you support them.”
“We are encouraging him, and we also encourage everyone who has an issue to seek help. A player must never be crucified for seeking help. Thatโs why I am driving to Limpopo now to go and see him,โ he said.
Hours after the interview, Mogashoa confirmed he saw the former Amakhosi attacker and is committed to the rehabilitation process.
