Khanyisa Mayo missed out on a big Algerian title with CR Belouizdad, as ex-Kaizer Chiefs star Siyabonga Ngezana won another title with FCSB.
Mayo was on parade as CR Belouizdad lost 2-0 to USM Alger in the Algerian Cup final on Saturday. The Sead Ramovic-coached side succumbed to goals from Riad Benayad and Ahmed Khaldi. The match was played at the Stade Nelson Mandela.
Mayo was in the starting line-up for CR Belouizdad in what is considered the biggest cup competition in Algeria. However it was not to be for the former Cape Town City FC forward. Meanwhile Mayo ended the 2024/25 season with four goals in 27 matches.
EX-CHIEFS STAR SIYABONGA NGEZANA WINS ANOTHER TITLE IN ROMANIA
Former Kaizer Chiefs defender Siyabonga Ngezana played 90 minutes as FCSB accounted for the 2025 Romanian Super Cup on Saturday.
They beat CFR Cluj 2-1 at the Steaua Stadium in the final, completing a cup double having also won the 2024/25 Romanian Superliga title.
In the Major Soccer League [MLS] Western Conference, Bongokuhle Hlongwane played three minutes as Minnesota United beat FC Dallas on Saturday.
Minnesota United beat FC Dallas 2-1 in a match that was played at the Toyota Stadium. After 21 matches, they are undoubtedly a true Western Conference contender.
In this one, Minnesota United won courtesy of goals that were scored by Carlos Harvey and Anthony Markanich.
The win solidified their third position on the MLS Western Conference table. They have 37 points on their tally and are behind Vancouver and San Diego. Meanwhile Hlongwane has scored three goals and provided one assist in the 21 matches that he has played so far.

OLWETHU MAKHANYA EMERGES AS THE FALL GUY IN PHILADELPHIA UNION DEFEAT
In the Eastern Conference, defender Olwethu Makhanya was the fall guy as Philadelphia Union lost to 10-manย Nashville SC.
Hany Mukhtar converted a penalty in the 11th minute of second-half stoppage time to seal Nashville SC’s 1-0 win. Sadly, for Makhanya he was adjudged to have conceded the penalty after a video review determined he had fouled Mukhtar in the box.
Moreover, for SA coach Bradley Carnell it is getting worrisome after losing back-to-back matches to Columbus Crew and Nashville SC respectively. Before their defeat on June 29, Carnell had led the team to a 11-match unbeaten streak.
Carnell and his men are third on the Eastern Conference log table with 40 points after 21 matches. They are two points behind log table leaders FC Cincinnati. Nashville SC are second on the table with 41 points.
