Petersen’s take on Chiefs’ new talent & DDC stars

Kaizer Chiefs pre-season camp training in Netherlands

Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Brandon Petersen has spoken out about his impressions of the new players and the DStv Diski Challenge youngsters who are currently with the senior squad in the Netherlands for their pre-season camp.

Petersen and the rest of the Amakhosi squad are undergoing a two-week pre-season camp in Apeldoorn, Netherlands, which includes several friendly matches against Dutch top-tier sides.

In the second week of camp, the Soweto giants will face off against five teams in training matches: Vitesse, FC Utrecht, NEC Nijmegen, PEC Zwolle, and FC Twente.

Speaking on the sidelines of the camp in Apeldoorn, Netherlands, Petersen expressed his excitement about the DDC graduates, stating that the senior players are familiar with most of them from their time training together. He’s eager to see them perform in the first team.

The DDC youngsters who have joined the pre-season tour are Manqoba Ozoemena, Naledi Hlongwane, Kabelo Nkgwesa and Thulani Mabaso. These players were integral to the DDC title-winning Amakhosi squad last season.

Regarding the new signings, the Chiefs goalie also conveyed his enthusiasm, describing them as “exciting signings.” Among the new arrivals who have travelled to the Netherlands are Ethan Chislett, Nkanyiso Shinga, Thabiso Monyane, and Flavio Silva.

He anticipates that fans will get a glimpse of their talent during the upcoming friendly matches and in the Toyota Cup against Ghanaian giants Asante Kotoko SC on Saturday, 26 July 2025, at Moses Mabhida Stadium.

PETERSEN EAGER FOR FANS TO SEE “EXCITING” CHIEFS NEW SIGNINGS IN ACTION

โ€œThere are new players who came in, so I think the important thing is to welcome them and to gel as soon as possible and become one unit so when the season starts, and people come out to watch us play, they see one unit, one force, and we can hit the ground running,โ€ said Petersen.

โ€œThey [new signings and DDC players] have been good, especially the younger boys. I mean, we know most of them as we’ve seen them play, and they’ve played with us a few times, and they’re looking forward to playing in the first team.

“We are excited to see them playing together in the first team and the new guys as well, exciting signings, and I’m looking forward to the friendlies we’re going to be playing, and people will be able to get a glimpse of them.

“I think a lot of people are excited to watch them play, and I think the players are excited as well, obviously, to put their talent and skills on display, so I’m really looking forward to it.
