Thabo Nodada is the latest senior player to leave Cape Town City FC as the club’s squad continues to see an exodus following their recent relegation to the second-tier league.

The Citizens ended the 2024/25 season at the bottom of the 15-team Betway Premiership standings and struggled in the PSL Promotional/Relegation Playoffs. During the playoffs, CT City failed to record a win in four matches, drawing three and losing one. Orbit College FC secured promotion after their 1-0 victory over CT City last season.

Since then, the club has seen several senior players leave, many of whom have been crucial to recent success. Among them is long-serving captain Thamsanqa Mkhize. Joining Mkhize are experienced stars such as Thulani Serero, Fortune Makaringe, Amadou Soukouna, Haashim Domingo, Lorenzo Gordinho, and Nathan Fasika.

Darren Keet, the 35-year-old goalkeeper with previous stints at Bidvest Wits, Kortrijk, Leuven, and Cape Umoya, also announced his departure. Keet, who has been with CT City since 2021, made 104 appearances and kept 40 clean sheets.

THABO NODADA REACHES MUTUAL AGREEMENT TO LEAVE CAPE TOWN CITY

Nodada, the last remaining player from Mpumalanga Black Aces before their sale and relocation, spent part of last season on the sidelines due to injury.

The 30-year-old sustained an injury towards the end of the 2023/24 season in a match against Kaizer Chiefs.
He returned to the field in October, as the club was struggling following a slow start to the season. A vital part of the Citizens’ culture, Nodada was widely recognised as a leader both on and off the pitch.

Over recent seasons, he has been linked with moves away, with both Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates showing interest. However, no substantive proposals were made to the club. In February 2024, Nodada signed a three-year contract renewal, but he has now parted ways through mutual agreement.

He was part of the CT City squad that won the MTN8 trophy in the 2018/19 season, marking a significant achievement in his career.
