Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Thabo Cele has opened up about the comprehensive rebuilding phase that the club is currently navigating under the guidance of Nasreddine Nabi.
The 28-year-old joined Amakhosi on a free transfer in January this year, following his departure from the Russian outfit Fakel Voronezh.
The Phefeni Glamour Boys became Cele’s first professional club in his home country, South Africa, after he had left at a young age in 2016, joining Real SC in Portugal.
Having spent just six months with the Soweto giants, Cele has made 15 appearances in the famous Gold and Black colours.
He played a pivotal role, helping Chiefs end their decade-long trophy drought. They won the Nedbank Cup after beating Orlando Pirates in the final in May.

CELE SAYS CHIEFS ARE CAPABLE TO ACHIEVE MORE SUCCESS
“With Kaizer Chiefs, there’s so much potential to win the trophies,” said Cele during the Thabo Thalente Games launch in KwaMashu.
“So, for us as a team, we can see that we have become that [successful] team within the club, so we can win things. But for us, we just need to focus on things that we can do for now, so we can improve gradually as time goes on.
“Building is a process; for us, we need to focus and try to enjoy that process. It goes back to the fact that we love and enjoy what we’re doing. All these difficulties we come across, we’re just trying to make that process.”
Chiefs recently jetted off to the Netherlands for pre-season camp, preparing for what promises to be a challenging season for them.
After a long time, they are set to return to continental football, participating in the CAF Confederation Cup thanks to their Nedbank Cup triumph last season.
