South African defender Waylon Renecke has secured a loan move to Swedish second-tier side Örgryte from Danish giants FC Copenhagen until the end of 2025.

Copenhagen signed the 19-year-old from Norwich City FC in September 2024. The teenager, born in England to South African parents, made 20 appearances for Copenhagen’s Under-19 team this season.

To continue his development and unlock his full potential, he has been loaned out. While playing for Copenhagen’s youth team, he has also trained with the first team and gained some minutes in friendly matches. Renecke aims to break into senior team football next year.

“It’s been great training regularly with the first team so far,” he told FCK’s media. “It’s a great opportunity for me, and I will work hard and do everything I can to achieve my goal of becoming part of the first-team squad here at FC Copenhagen.”

FC Copenhagen have reached an agreement with Örgryte IS to loan U19 defender Waylon Renecke for the rest of the Swedish season, according to a club statement.

“Renecke will play for the Gothenburg club, who are currently third in the Superettan, this autumn.”
The loan agreement, valid until the end of 2025, offers the young defender valuable playing time and a good environment to further his development.

Renecke, who joined Norwich in 2019, is a versatile left-footed defender capable of playing both as a centre-back and a left-back. Skilled with the ball, he excels at reading the game defensively and positioning himself effectively. He often initiates attacks from deep with his strong build-up play.

The youngster, who began his career at Peterborough United from the Under-9s to the Under-13s, has earned several youth international caps. He possesses international youth experience from both England and South Africa.

Two years ago, he was part of Duncan Crowie’s Under-17 AFCON squad in Algeria.
